BIKE BATTLE 2011

Bike Battle 2011 was a HUGE success!

Event was on Saturday, April 16, 2011

A brief history:

It all started with the idea to have a small movie night and trackstand competition in a basement. Having developed a good rapport with Jeff Crabtree (owner of said brewery) over the past  few years, I thought "if I'm going to have it in a basement, why don't I try holding it in the brewhouse instead..." which led to more thoughts. "If we're holding it in the brewhouse, why not have live music? If we're having live music, why not make use of the warehouse? If we're in the warehouse, why not have a couple DJs on the scissor lift? If we're having all of that, why not bring in a bunch of awesome sponsors?

So with that, the monster was born.

The first Bike Battle was a success, on December 2, 2010. Bike Battle 2011 was even bigger, and the people there made it amazing.

How many people came, you say? Guesstimations put us at about 250-300, as the crowd changed throughout the day.

The highlights were all across the board for the Battle 2011...First, we had full rein of inside and outside of the Crabtree Brewery, and bicycle chaos was in full swing all day. We had a great bunny hop contest from www.PlusSizeBMX.com , some FAST warehouse races with everyone involved...kiddos, ladies, and the gentlemen. Many spills were taken, and there were grins all around. Polo? Check. Folks from Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins, and Cheyenne were in on it. Kicker ramp? Got it. Folks were throwing down on our ghetto ramp in good style. For those who were looking for something more upscale, Syntax Spirits was there serving up fine beverage at their distillery right next door. We gave away a Pake track frame and fork donated by the The Roubaix Bike shop on 16th street in Greeley. Surly has been a faithful supporter of the 2010 and 2011 Bike Battle, laying down the goods for the community. There was ample jealousy for their Clown tee shirt, seriously. People were vying for these and riding HARD. Also, holy what what what they sent us a singleator? Yes, yes they did. Don't know what that is? Well you probably want one, if you're into that kind of thing. Chrome Messenger Bags sent us one of their Citizen bags, which have become a staple of the urban cycling scene. Polo players and racers alike had their days brightened up by some treats from Fyxation, with some LOUD grips and bar end caps. Nyle from Denver and Justin from Windsor both took home loot from Surly, track pedals, straps, and  chainrings from All City, and ukiah handelbars from Pake for outstanding riding. Fixed gear warehouse race at high speed, with a victory elephant skid? Killer finish, Nyle! Justin from Windsor took home a pile of gear with his speed and hops. 36". That's taller than my dog with his tail in full alpha mode. Patrick's Irish Pub was busy running the Boston Marathon, so couldn't make it. Seriously. They did, however, send home some lucky folks with giant steins and Gregbucks to fill them. Thank you all for coming, for participating, for supporting the event, and for believing in community. YEEHAW!

If you found out about our event through posters and need design done, do it right. Do it on Saturday.
