Rides meet at 7pm every Thursday.

NEW ROUTE EVERY WEEK!

This week's ride will be almost entirely on bike lanes.

We will strive to keep the ride on well lit streets.

ROUTE WILL BE POSTED SOON

For your own safety, PLEASE bring a helmet and lights.

We should have some demo lights from the Roubaix bike shop and may be selling some.

Remember: these rides are on public streets. We will be sharing some traffic riding safety info on the ride.

New photos from the bike park! The bike park has about 2 miles of singletrack, a plethora of obstacles, and a new dirt jump line....check it out! 65th avenue and 20th street, directly behind the Farr Library and surrounding the baseball complex.

Everyone,

Here is an update on the bike park and what needs to be done.

Trail Status

All the trails are cut out and being ridden. Mountain bikers seem to like the flow of the trails and lay out. Nate and I spoke with some guys who did about 3 laps on the trails. I finally hit the entire trail system on Saturday morning and I think they are pretty fun trails. Fast and flowing some sections need to be reworked, but for the most part they are very nice.

We have the trails marked as blue or black. Obstacles are being placed slowly but surely.

If you are not able to work on the trails, come out and ride them. Riding them helps keep the weeds down, defines the trails, and will pack in the obstacles that are currently placed.

Future Build Dates

We will be taking this week off (Adam may be working on Thursday and Saturday, but he will email the group if he is planning on working).

We have not had much luck with people coming out on Thursday evening to work so we will try some Tuesday nights for a change. We will start working a little earlier and quit a little earlier (mosquitos are merciless as the sun sets).

Work That Needs to Done

Bill Andrews sugggested providing a list of things that need to be done so if people wanted to come out to work, but can't work on a work day, what can/should they do. Here is a list of things that people can do independently on the trails.

1) Bring a chain saw and cut about a dozen railroad ties into smaller sections about 18 - 24 inches wide. These sections can/will be used as obstacles across the singletrack trails.

2) Haul rock or railroad ties (or combination of) to various sections of the trails and place them in the trails to make obstacles. You will need a wheelbarrow to do this and a shovel. You can see examples that we have made already on the trails.

3) Ride the trails on your bike then rework corners that are too sharp or need to be banked to make the trail flow better.

4) Bring a weed eater/weed whacker to cut the weed growth back along the edges of the trails (especially on northeast section of the trail system)

All of these activities, people can do on their own with no other supervision or directions. Just going out and riding the trails helps out greatly. Get out and ride, if you can't do anything else.

Cold brews will be furnished at the Tuesday night work sessions and some type of food will be available at the weekend work sessions.

Trails, upcoming events!

Hello everyone!
It's been a busy couple of months lately, and there's a lot to show for it. The trails are coming along well, though we need your help to finish the work. We have the main trail done, which is an 8 foot wide walking/running/riding trail. The intermediate singletrack trail is mostly done, but we still need to put the obstacles in...the advanced trail is in need of the most work, with only about 25% finished. If you all put in just a few hours of work, we could have this area finished and fully ready to ride VERY soon!

The trails are located by the intersection of west 20th street and 65th avenue, between Farr Library and the baseball fields.

Trail building update and events!

Happy Saturday everyone!

First, the main, wide path at the new natural area is DONE! Ready for cruising, walking, running, whatever! Also, the blue (intermediate) singletrack trail is very near complete, and is certainly rideable if you use the main path in a short section.

If you haven't been to the trails yet, you can access the area from the Farr Library (20th street and just east of 65th ave), park there and walk or ride up to the wide cement path parallel to 20th street. Head west and you will see the wide, main path going into the meadow to the right. The blue trail branches off from the path very early on. You will be able to ride it, though for a bit you may have to use the main path as the trail is not entirely finished.

You may also access the trails by going down 65th avenue from 20th street and taking a right into the neighborhood. There is a small circular pulloff and obvious cement trail that begins there. Walk or ride up this trail toward the bridge and again, you will see the main path. The blue path branches off the path to both the right and left. It is currently unmarked, but is mostly finished and fun!

We had some motivated folks out on Thursday night working on the blue trail; thanks to Nate, Chris, Scott, Cameron, and Abby, you all put in some hard work!

We have some upcoming trail work days, and we need your help! The community is making this happen, and we need you, dear reader, to do your best in donating your time if you're at all interested! This is an amazing area...please give us your effort to make it accessible and fun for everyone! You can come for any amount of time, from an hour to all day.

TRAILS! YAY! We've cut 1800 feet so far....

The trails are becoming a reality. Sorry for the delay, but there were some details that had to be worked out with the town. We found out only days ago that the town has given a full green light to the project. Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of many people ( and a HUGE vote of thanks to Bryce Kyburz for all of his ongoing work ) the trails and natural area in west Greeley is a GO. We have begun to cut trail...and will be holding organized trail days as well as impromptu, short notice work sessions. Bryce measured out the singletrack trail that was cut on Saturday, and we have about 1800 feet (that's about 1/3 mile) and we're nowhere near done.

April 17th and 18th we will be building singletrack trails. Your help will make this area the awesome place that it has the potential to be.

Friday, April 2 marked the first big event at our home bouldering wall...the Sending for a Survivor Benefit Bouldering Competition. The event was to support my wife's (our!) aunt Cindy, and the proceeds went to the American Cancer Society. We had almost 40 participants, with people from the community showing up intermittently to cheer the participants. There were climbers from Greeley, Fort Collins, and Denver present. The event had really positive energy the entire night, thanks to an awesome group of people, event donors Crabtree Brewing, GoFast energy, Chrome Bags, Domino's Pizza, Chipotle, Stonewear Designs, Mellow Yellow, SoIll Climbing Holds, and the man of the evening, DJ Matty Dice.

The City of Greeley has given the go ahead for the Bike Trails and natural area in west Greeley! I've volunteered to be the Volunteer Coordinator, which means you'll start seeing updates often on this blog, the facebook group, and a new facebook group specifically dedicated to the bike park and its happenings.

Casual group ride through Greeley, visiting some of its independent coffee shops. Each shop will be designating or designing a special beverage for the event, sticking with a biking theme. Come to Lincoln Library TONIGHT (Wednesday, 1-27) at 7pm. Lincoln library is downtown by the Union Colony Civic Center / the big park there.

Spring is coming...and so is the Bike Park!

Sunshine has been plentiful the past few weeks! Spring may or may not be on the way and still there's great news for the Revolution.

Weekly rides will be starting in the next couple of weeks.

The Bike Park in West Greeley will become a reality! A very motivated friend of mine is making it happen...funds are almost guaranteed, finalizing meetings are planned with the City...it's getting close!

Bike Park support meeting COMING UP Jan 27th!

January 27th, 7:00pm at the Lincoln Library (near downtown)

Show up to learn about the park and how you can volunteer to help make it a reality!

The bike park will consist of a main, multi-use trail, with branches of technical singletrack for an additional challenge. Tell your friends...come support the cause.

Freeze/Thaw Cycle Alley Cat Race

Yesterday marked the first (that I know of) Alley Cat race in Greeley. Don't know what an Alley Cat is? Check the wiki link at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alleycat_races

The race was unsanctioned and just a fun rush through town. Beginning at third street and eighth avenue, racers lined up at three in the afternoon, and after finding out their checkpoints and destination, were off. Racers took a plethora of courses through town, all hitting the checkpoint at 16th street and 35th avenue, then ending at 16th street and ninth avenue. Not only did everyone make it safely through the race, but also everyone had ear to ear smiles. Racers grouped at the Cheba Hut afterward and had food an pints. The race was a huge success, hopefully there will be more in the future. Some photos and video to come!

Mountain Bike Park

Good evening world,

Tonight's meeting about the Bike Park was a success, folks from throughout town showed up, including representatives from most of the bike shops in town! We figured out PLENTY of work we need to get done to make this a reality, and will be delegating that work amongst the group. I will update the blog as things come to light, progress is made, or I simply get bored. Don't forget to show up for the ride this Friday! 8:00pm at the intersection of 10th avenue and 20th street. The Revolution will be headed to the Kress cinema ( 817 8th avenue, 970.515.5717 ) for a free screening of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Support them through drinks and food!

Mountain Biking Trails...IN GREELEY?!

The Greeley Revolution Chain Gang needs you if:

-You want trails to ride in Greeley!

-You are motivated and looking for some exercise, work, and camaraderie

-You already mountain bike, bmx, or are looking into getting into either

-You want to put in some volunteer hours that aren't your typical volunteer event

What is the chain gang?

The Chain Gang is exactly what it sounds like...a lot of work...trail work. The Gang will give the community ownership of a new bike park idea being put together by a few motivated individuals, on land provided by the city.

Why join the Chain Gang?

Because we need you! There is an opportunity to build singletrack trails, jumps, a pump track, wooden obstacles, anything within sensible reason. We will plan the area as a group, with City of Greeley folks (who ride too!), then get to work. We want to make this as effectively built as possible, to get the most use out of the land.

How can you join the Chain Gang?

The B3 was this past weekend, and it was an awesome event! There were about 100 participants cruising the streets of Greeley under their own power, then hanging out at Oktoberfest afterward. To anyone who came, hope you had as much fun as I did!

Saturday's ride was a great time; we had 9 riders and the Kress was awesome as usual. It made my night that as we all cruised past the Rio Grande restaurant, many people outside were slightly awed and surprised (excited maybe?!) at the number of cyclists zooming by on a Saturday night.

Let's keep growing! I want to meet any and all people who are at all interested in this!

This week we're going to meet at the intersection of 10th avenue and 20th street on Saturday the 19th at 8:15pm. Bring a bike. Bring something comfortable and warm/dry enough to ride in. Bring a lock! Bring some moolah and an ID if you want refreshments. The Kress has plenty of non-alcoholic beverages and food, so plan on whatever you want.
